21 Jump Street
I’M BACK!!! W00T!! Back by popular demand (literally). Right time to review, i might be a little rusty but let’s do this:
One line review:
It might only be March, but this is contender for comedy of the year from me.
Jonah Hill, in his first (that i’m watching) “thin” movie, proves that he didn’t need the fat jokes to get him through. He does a really good job and portraying the grown up nerd character, and that’s what he delivers here. Great with the comedy, and then shows a bit of actual acting with the character relationship building in the movie.
Channing Tatum, i have only ever seen in She’s The Man and John Tucker Must Die, but i know he’s in those crappy dancing movies as well, but he definately has talent for comedic acting. He is right there with Hill in every joke, and in the character stuff.
Several cameos to look out for too, including Dave Franco, of final season of Scrubs and Larry Crowne fame. Rob Riggle from The Hangover and Ice Cube are also very funny.
Like i said earlier, this is funny from start to finish. Yes there are some character building moments in it, but you need these to calm yourself and breath for the next round of lol’ing is shortly around the corner. There are several bits i want to point out so if you intend to watch it:
*POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!*
There are several refernces to things that happen in movies all the time and are very funny, for example, this is a modern retake on an 80’s tv show. In the epsiode there is a point where they say they are re-using a program the 80’s, and thats all we do now, rehash stuff from the past and hope no-one notices. Another one being in most movies when a bad guy hits a petrol truck it explodes. Well thats not always the case if there isnt a spark which is rather funny in this film. The other big spoiler is Johnny Depp does make a cameo towards the end of the movie. This is relevent as Depp’s career was started by the 80’s tv show.
