Salmon Fishing In The Yemen
One Line Review:
A little British comedy, an unexpected success.
This film is filled to the brim with British talent. Ewan McGregor (Obi Wan in Star Wars 1,2,3 and if you didn’t know that please leave) can do no wrong in my eye, and is just awesome. Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada, Gulliver’s Travels) is equally as good and just as good-looking. Both the leads bring emotion, feeling to their characters and you just want them to succeed by the end of the film. Kristin Scott Thomas is also just fully enjoyable as a comic relief, in this actually funny film. Other notable mentions to Amr Waked’s Sheikh and Tom Beard for having an awesome surname and for playing McGregor’s boss, Maxwell.
I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a boring drama flick that would be forgotten about. However it turned out to be a really good, funny movie. I’ve mentioned its comedic nature a lot so far, let me point out, this is still a drama, about a project to introduce salmon fishing to Yemen, but manages to inject just enough humour every now and then to keep the audience’s attention. There are some really emotional moments in the movie, no spoilers, but when the fish are released into the Yemen and then after they start fishing. Both awesome parts. One of my favourite bits were the scenes where Kristin Scott Thomas would IM to the Prime Minister, again no spoilers, but it’s really funny. Now as i said it is a drama, so there are some flat and slow parts that are story oriented, but even as a person who knows nothing about fishing, I was rolled into the story, and the sub-stories of the characters’ relationships.
